WOODS COUNTY, Oklahoma -

An Oklahoma City man was injured after he fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed his vehicle in Woods County Saturday night.

It happened at 11 p.m. Saturday just north of Noble Road on County Road 250 in Woods County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 47-year-old Thomas McDermott was driving a 2011 Ford vehicle, southbound on the county road, when he fell asleep behind the wheel. The car ran off the road to the west, and traveled 253 feet before striking a bridge abutment.

The vehicle then traveled for another 190 feet before coming to rest in the southbound lane of the road.

McDermott was pinned in the car for about nine and half hours, according to the OHP collision report. He was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Enid in stable condition, with head, arm, trunk internal, and leg injuries.

Troopers listed the cause of the collision as "apparently sleepy" in the OHP report.
