OKLAHOMA CITY -

Paramedics rushed an elderly woman to a hospital Saturday morning after her house caught fire in northwest Oklahoma City.

According to the fire department, firefighters responded to a call around 10:30 a.m. at a house located in the 900 block of Duncan Drive. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames at the residence.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire, but additional crews had to be called in to give firefighters a chance to get out of the heat and rest.

"It's still hot," said Acting District Fire Chief Tommy Curry. "We've got a work/rest cycle established for our crews. They're resting. We're doing some overhaul with some additional crews that were called in simply because of the heat."

There were numerous tanks of oxygen inside that house that were extremely flammable, but they did not pose any problems to firefighters.

An elderly woman living in the home had to be taken to the hospital to be checked out. She's expected to recover.

Investigators are trying to determine how the fire started.
