The Highway 169 bridge over 81st Street was named in honor of a fallen Tulsa marine and police officer Friday morning.

Corporal Jared Shoemaker was killed in 2006 by a roadside bomb in Iraq.

"We love it, not only because it recognizes Jared, but it reminds people about Jared's sacrifice and that there's a lot of other service men and women out there that have done the same thing," Jared's parents, Ken and Linda Shoemaker said.

The Shoemakers said Jared would've probably been embarrassed by all the attention.
