The Oklahoma State soccer team began their season Friday night, looking to prove their No. 5 preseason ranking, the highest in school history, was no fluke.

They almost proved it was.

An own goal by University of Missouri-Kansas City in the 74th minute proved to be the difference, as the Cowgirls escaped with a 1-0 victory in Stillwater.

The win was the 200th victory in program history for OSU.

The Cowgirls dominated the game, racking up 30 shots, including 18 shots on goal. However, Finnell held OSU at bay, turning away shot after shot.

"In the game of soccer you can dominate the 90 minutes and create a lot of chances and not score, that's just the nature of the beast," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. "You also have to give their goalkeeper a ton of credit. She made four or five phenomenal saves, and she was easily the MVP."

Finnell had 17 saves for the game, but will remember the only shot she allowed to slip past her, which proved to be the difference in the game.

The Roos managed just three shots, only one on goal, and didn't have a corner kick the entire game.

OSU will take on Weber State in Stillwater on Sunday at noon.
