A man is in jail, accused of shooting at an off-duty Oklahoma City Police officer. And it all happened while they were driving down Interstate 35.

Oklahoma City police say this happened around 2 a.m. Monday. The off-duty officer was trying to make his way home, when all of the sudden, a driver came out of nowhere, and tried to play a dangerous game of chicken.

It all started after the officer left his shift at the Springlake Police station. Not in a squad car, but in his own personal SUV.

Police say the off-duty officer was driving southbound along I-35, when all of the sudden, he had a driver come up on him at a high rate of speed.

Police say the driver turned out to be 35-year-old Barry Whitley. They say Whitley drove out in front of the officer and tried to keep him from passing for an unknown reason.

The officer continued driving along I-35 when Whitley's car came to the passenger side, and then, the officer saw Whitley pull a gun and start firing, that's when the officer said he pulled his gun too.

Police say the officer did not fire a shot, but did follow Whitley from a safe distance away. He also called for backup.

Whitley was finally pulled over and arrested in the 5300 block of South High. Neither the officer nor his car were hit during the shooting.

Right now, Whitley is being held in the Oklahoma County jail on $25,000 bond.

Whitley worked at St. Anthony's hospital and did have a conceal carry license. He's being held for discharging a firearm from a vehicle, along with other traffic violations.
