OKLAHOMA CITY -
Classes begin Wednesday, August 1, for Oklahoma City Public Schools. That means time is running out for students to get school supplies. Unfortunately, many students cannot afford them so the Salvation Army and Target are stepping into help.
Retired teacher Carolyn Edwards decided to help the organization after she left the classroom.
"It's heartbreaking to learn there are kids in the metro who show up to class the first day empty handed."
The Salvation Army is taking children in need shopping at Target. There, volunteers purchase not only school supplies, but personal items such as socks and underwear; items they need to begin the school year on the right track.
