OKLAHOMA CITY -
Deputies with the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office arrested 19 people on various complaints at a safety checkpoint in Oklahoma City over the weekend.
Deputies conducted the checkpoint from 9 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday near S.E. 89th and Shields Boulevard in Oklahoma City.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the round-up was aimed at catching impaired drivers and ensuring public safety.
A breakdown of arrests made at the checkpoint,
• Three for possession of controlled dangerous substance
• Three for driving under the influence
• Three for driving under suspension
• Three for operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license
• Two for driving while intoxicated
• Two for possession of marijuana
• One for possession of firearm
• One for outstanding warrant
• One for public intoxication
"People who choose to get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol or drugs make a decision that often has dangerous and deadly consequences," Sheriff Joe Lester said. "These safety checkpoints give my deputies a chance to arrest impaired drivers before they ever get the chance to hurt others."
