Rusty Surette

Rusty Surette is an Emmy-nominated reporter with more than 18 years of news and media relations experience.

He's a native of Port Arthur, Texas and began his television news career at the age of 14 as a freelance photographer for KBMT-TV and KJAC-TV.   After high school, Rusty remained in the business and worked as a news photographer in Beaumont, TX, Raleigh, NC and Las Vegas, NV.   In 2000, he was hired by KVHP-TV in Lake Charles, Louisiana as a news anchor, producer, assignments manager and weather forecaster. In 2002, he moved back to his hometown of Beaumont-Port Arthur and was the morning news anchor and executive producer for KBTV-TV until 2007.

In July 2007, Rusty moved to Oklahoma City to join the News 9 family.

Over his career, Rusty has received more than a dozen awards and honors from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Oklahoma Associated Press, Louisiana Associated Press, Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists, Southeast Texas Press Club and Nevada Electronic Media Association. 

In 2011, Rusty took a temporary break from television news to work at the American Red Cross. As Regional Director of Communications, Rusty spent countless hours helping disaster victims across Oklahoma, Texas and Mississippi. Today, Rusty continues to serve as a Red Cross volunteer.

In 2011, Rusty graduated with an Associate's Degree in Personal Fitness and Exercise Science from Heritage College in Oklahoma City.

His favorite spots in the Sooner State include the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Oklahoma Science Museum, the Director's Suite at the Warren Theaters in Moore, Sushi Pachinko Parlor, Eichen's, Oklahoma State University and Eskimo Joe's. Today, you can watch Stan, Robin, Bobbie, Jed and Rusty every weekday morning from 4:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m. on News 9.
