A Canadian County Deputy Sheriff is fired, then arrested and taken to jail. It all stems from a domestic situation with his family over the weekend.

The Canadian County Sheriff's Office says former Deputy Sheriff Brad Shoopman admits firing a rifle inside his home.

It happened on Sunday, May 6 around 2:30 a.m. when a domestic call came into 911. The sheriff's office was notified by dispatchers that the call involved the deputy sheriff.

"Two deputies were dispatched to Deputy Shoopman's Piedmont residence on complaints that he was intoxicated and had fired a weapon inside the house and threatened his wife with a firearm," said Canadian County Sheriff Randall Edwards.

Sheriff Edwards said when the deputies arrived at Shoopman's home, they found him outside of the house, intoxicated and very angry with his wife. Shoopman told deputies he believed his wife was seeing another man.

According to the deputies, Shoopman's wife told them they had a party earlier. She said her husband accused her of having a relationship with one of the men that was asleep in the home and who had attended the party. She said when she tried to leave after Shoopman became intoxicated and angry, he grabbed the shotgun and threatened her.

That's when the wife's 20-year-old son intervened, taking the rifle from Shoopman and hiding it. While the son was hiding the gun, though, Shoopman's wife said the deputy chief went back inside the home, grabbed another gun and fire it. Children and adults were reportedly sleeping in the home at the time. That's when Shoopman's wife said she called 911.

When questioned, Shoopman admitted he fired a rifle round through the roof of his home.

When Sheriff Edwards arrived on scene, he fired Shoopman and instructed the deputies to transport him to the Canadian County Jail. Shoopman faces charges of assault with a dangerous weapon. Shoopman's patrol car was confiscated along with any other Sheriff's Office property in his possession including his issued weapons, uniforms, badge and commission card.

"I do not tolerate conduct like this from an employee," said Sheriff Edwards.

Shoopman is currently out of jail on bond. The incident remains under investigation. More charges are pending.
