The Oklahoma Sooners jumped out to a big lead, but were unable to hold off the Oregon State Beavers, falling 11-7 to close out the Nike Showcase, going 2-2 in the event.

Oklahoma scored seven runs in its first two innings, hanging five in the second to take a commanding lead early in the game.

Leading 2-0 with nobody out in the top of the second with runners on first and second, Chase Simpson hit a bunt single, but the left fielder was unable to handle it, allowing both Cody Reine and Garrett Carey to score and double its lead.

Three at-bats later, Jack Mayfield singled to center, bringing Simpson home and giving the Sooners a 5-0 advantage. Two at-bats later, Max White singled to center field, bringing Mayfield and Dylan Neil home to take a 7-0 advantage.

Oregon State finally cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth, thanks to a leadoff home run by Michael Conforto to cut the led to six runs. Four at-bats later, Ryan Dunn scored on a groundout from Ryan Barnes to close the deficit to 7-2. The Beavers tagged on one more run in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to an RBI double by Dylan Davis to continue to chip into the lead.

With runners on the corners in the third at-bat of the bottom of the seventh, Conforto doubled to left field to bring Max Gordon home from third to make it a three-score game. Davis followed with a two-run double down the left field line to close the deficit to 7-6.

Five at-bats later, Dunn and Davis scored on a fielding error at third base, putting the Beavers ahead by one run.

Oregon State tagged on three more runs in the bottom of the eighth, with a two-run home run from Davis and a solo shot by Dunn to push the lead to 11-7, putting Oklahoma in a big hole.

Beavers' closer Tony Bryant, who pitched a scoreless eighth, went three-up three-down in the top of the ninth, including two strikeouts, to close the game out.

Riley Wilkerson was credited with a win for the Beavers, giving up just one hit in his two innings of service, while Kindle Lapp received a loss, giving up three earned runs on five hits in two innings.

The Sooners will next head to Dallas to take on the Dallas Baptist Patriots, before opening up conference play at 6:30 p.m. Friday against the Texas Longhorns.
