OSU Baseball Notches 11-0 Shutout Over St. Gregory's

STILLWATER, Oklahoma -

The Oklahoma State Cowboys picked up their second win of the season with a strong 11-0 shutout of St. Gregory's Wednesday afternoon in Stillwater.

The game was scoreless until Aaron Cornell knocked a leadoff single to left in the bottom of the third to get the hitting started for the Cowboys. Robbie Rea followed with a base hit to put two runners aboard with no outs.

OSU senior Hunter Bailey managed a bunt and the Cavaliers missed the throw to third which allowed two runs to score while Bailey made it to third.

The Cowboys rounded out the inning after Jared Womack smacked a line drive to left that allowed Bailey to tag and score to put OSU on top 3-0.

In the bottom of the fourth with two on, Zach Fish came through with an RBI to make it 4-0. By the end of the inning the Cowboys added two more runs off a hit by Bailey.

Right hander Blake Barnes had a great performance on the mound for the Cowboys. He pitched career-high six shoutout innings with another career best of six strikeouts.

OSU added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh frame after Fish doubled to bring in a pair of runs to go up 8-0.

In the eighth, Trey Whaley hit a long ball to the wall for a double that scored two more runs followed by an RBI double by Wes Jones that brought Whaley home and made it 11-0.

Jon Perrin came in during the seventh to replace Barnes. He pitched two scoreless innings before lefty Kyle Bagnell pitched the ninth and sealed the victory.

Barnes allowed just one walk and four hits to earn the win.

Womack, Whaley,Jones and Fish each tallied two hits a piece, while Fish led OSU with three RBIs.

OSU is now 2-0 at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium and the Cowboys return to the field Friday, Feb. 24 hosting Bowling Green St. at 4 p.m.
