Inmates Transferred To New Cleveland County Jail

More than 100 inmates were transferred to a new Cleveland County jail, located on the north side of Norman.

Detainees were transferred to the new $26 million facility Saturday morning. The move brings much needed relief to the overcrowded Beggs Detention Center, officials said.

The new state-of-the-art jail has an inmate capacity of more than 540.

The old jail in downtown Norman held only 170 people.
