Jed's Weather Blog: What I Did For My Winter Vacation!

I recently took a trip to the warm beaches of sunny south Florida, and boy, it was beautiful! I was able to enjoy experiences not typical to Oklahoma; from seeing a Portuguese Man-o-war to visiting an orchid nursery to getting a suntan in the middle of winter!

But, what is happening in Oklahoma is not typical for this state, either. January has been unusually mild! The coldest daytime high for Oklahoma City has been 37 degrees, while most days have been in the 50s or 60s. Morning lows have averaged close to normal, but daytime highs have averaged more than six degrees warmer than normal, around 56 degrees.

I have had many people, especially on my Facebook fan page and Twitter, express disinterest on the milder temperatures. These Okies WANT SNOW!

As it looks heading into February, no extreme cold is forecasted in the next week. As for snow, just know it is always possible this time of the year, but given the pattern we've seen, I suspect that kind of trend will continue into February. As it looks right now, temperatures will be near or above normal through the middle part of the month.

One thing that is typical for Oklahoma is the variety of weather that we have from season to season!
