WOODS COUNTY, Oklahoma -

One man was killed and another was injured in a one-vehicle crash in Woods County early Monday morning.

This happened at 6:15 a.m. on U.S. 64, four miles east of Alva.

Troopers said 18-year-old Skiler James Morris was driving a 2001 Chevrolet pickup, westbound on U.S. 64, when he apparently fell asleep behind the wheels. The pickup then left the roadway to the left, struck a ditch and went airborne over County Road 480. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol collision report, the truck rolled one half time before landing on its top.

The passenger in the vehicle, 32-year-old Christopher Ross Collums of Woodward, was pinned in the truck for about 17 minutes before being freed by the Alva Fire Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to internal injuries, and was transported to Wharton Funeral Home in Alva.

Morris was thrown out of the vehicle and landed about 12 feet west of the truck. He was taken to the Share Memorial Hospital in Alva with leg and trunk internal injuries, and was later transferred to OU Medical Center in stable condition.

Troopers said neither Collums nor Morris was wearing a seatbelt. They determined the cause of collision to be apparently sleepy.
