Two Accused Of Seminole Woman's Murder Appear In Court

SEMINOLE, Oklahoma -- Two people charged with first-degree murder in the death of Veronica Carlson were arraigned Friday in a Seminole County courtroom.

Roger Gober and his fiancée, Marilee Smotherman, are accused of killing Carlson. Gober told investigators Smotherman stabbed his ex-girlfriend three times then told Gober to cut Carlson's throat and bury her body.

Police found Carlson's body on October 25, almost two weeks after she was reported missing.

Gober and Smotherman are charged with first-degree murder and desecration of a human corpse.  They are being held without bond in the Seminole County Jail.

According to probable cause affidavits, there was a third person at the scene of the murder, but she hasn't been charged.

If convicted, Gober and Smotherman could be sentenced to death or life in prison.
