DALLAS -- According to a report from the New York Times, the Big 12 is now "50-50" on whether it will add Louisville or West Virginia as its 10th member, due to a late push by the Cardinals.

A Big 12 conference call Tuesday was originally thought to rubberstamp the Mountaineers' move to the conference, but objections were raised by unnamed members. The NYT sources say that lobbying by Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky, to OU president –and former senator – David Boren helped slow the move to add WVU.

West Virginia officials who originally commented to the Times Tuesday calling the deal "solid," declined to comment to the paper Wednesday.

The decision on adding either West Virginia or Louisville hinges on Missouri following Texas A&M to the SEC, a decision that has been made by the school, but has not been announced.
