NORMAN, Oklahoma – OU head coach Bob Stoops sat down with News9.com's Dean Blevins after the Sooners' 47-17 win over Kansas.

Stoops acknowledged that OU did not start the game well, but said he was pleased with how they responded.

"I feel the team has really had a great willingness to work, a great attitude to prepare, all those kinds of things," Stoops said. "We have to keep building on some things. I liked that everything the other night wasn't just perfect away from home, but nobody got rattled.

The Sooners' defense shut Kansas down after halftime, holding the Jayhawks to just six total yards and one first down. Stoops said he could not be more pleased with how the defense played, but that the real story of the night was Ryan Broyles.

Broyles managed to break three individual records, including two on the same play. With a 57-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter, he broke both the NCAA career receptions mark and the Big 12 career touchdowns mark. He finished with 217 receiving yards, a single-game OU record.

"As a young guy, we could just tell [Broyles] had great hands and a knack for getting open and very competitive," Stoops said. "He's a very tough player. Though he's not huge in stature, he's very, very competitive and tough in how he plays."

The Sooners were No. 3 in the first BCS rankings announced Sunday, but Stoops was quick to point out that they still have a long road ahead of them.

OU is approaching arguably its toughest stretch of the season, with road games against No. 11 Kansas State and Baylor on the horizon, and a home game against Texas A&M sandwiched between. But first, the Sooners will face Texas Tech at 7 p.m. Saturday in Norman.

"Everybody wants to point to the end, but we're just now halfway through [the season]," Stoops said. "It's a 12-game season, and who knows what comes from there? We've got six under us, we've done well. Take a breath for a day, and work on Texas Tech."
