OKLAHOMA CITY – Over the weekend, numerous high school teams suited up for state competition across the state.

Volleyball and fast pitch softball crowned new state champions Saturday in class 4a-6a.

In 6A volleyball action, Bishop Kelley took home its fifth straight state championship title over Edmond North 3-0. The Comets were also named the 2011 academic state champions. The title is the 11th first place finish for Kelley in the last 14 years.

Class 5A's championship game came between Tulsa's Cascia Hall and Oklahoma City's Heritage Hall. In a tight battle, Cascia Hall came out on top winning 3-2 for the Commando's second straight title.

In softball action there were plenty of runs, including home runs to go around.

In class 4A Lauren Miller blasted a two-run homer in the sixth inning to help Blanchard to the come-from-behind 4-2 victory over the Tuttle Tigers. Blanchard. The win is Blanchard's second state title in three seasons.

Class 5A had the highest scoring game of the day. Carl Albert's McKenzie Jones belted three home runs, with two in the same inning to boost the Titans to a 17-7 win over Tahlequah. The state title is the second straight for Carl Albert and the fourth in the last six years.

In the largest class two Tulsa teams took the diamond to decide the 6A winner between Union and Owasso. The Redskins got things going in the second when Kelsey Goodwin belted a three-run homer. Union tallied 14 hits in the game to top Owasso 10-4. The first place finish is the second straight title for the Redskins.
