OKLAHOMA CITY -- Hundreds of motorcyclists showed up bright and early Saturday morning outside the News 9 studios in northeast Oklahoma City. The occasion? Oklahoma's Own Ride Against Childhood Hunger.

The bikes and those who ride them came in all shapes and sizes.

"I'm riding a 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan. It's just a little 900 but it gets me around just fine," said Bernie Martins, also known as Bear.

Bear Martins and his friends from Altus were among the hundreds showing up at 7 a.m. for the mid-morning ride to Stillwater.

News 9 Morning Anchor Stan Miller spearheaded the effort. Stan's Ride included active military, police officers, and firefighters.

"We appreciate what you do for us each and every day and put your life on the line for us and for our kids, and we'll never forget it," Miller told the crowd before the ride.

The bikers were treated to breakfast and a thank you from several News 9ers.

"Helping the kids. That's what it's all about," said biker Rob McCalla. "If you don't help those that can't help themselves, what the hell you here for?"

The group was an inspiring sight traveling up I-35. Waiting at Forman Harley Davidson in Stillwater was an auction and prizes, including a Harley. A bike entry fee of $100 will feed a child for half a school year through the Backpack and School Pantry Programs.

"It's awesome. All summer long it's been really hot and today is just perfect, so what better way to enjoy the ride," Martins said.

If you weren't able to ride today but would like to make a donation contact the Regional Food Bank.
