MINCO, Oklahoma -- Another Oklahoma serviceman has been killed in combat.  Sergeant Mycal L. Prince of Minco, 28, died Thursday when insurgents attacked his unit in Afghanistan.

Prince has served as a National Guardsmen for ten years. When he wasn't fighting overseas he was protecting people as a police officer In Minco.  Flags flew at half staff in Minco Friday.

Prince is the 11th soldier from the 45th Infantry Brigade killed this year.

He was considered a hero by people in Minco long before he was deployed to Afghanistan in March.

"He was a great officer a great family man and a great friend. He was actually the first officer I hired here when I became the police chief," Phil Blevins said.

That was a little more than two years ago and it didn't take the father of two long to make his mark on Minco's police department.

"He was our first K-9 officer.  He did a great job, got many drug arrests. He was still young and learning, but he got a lot of drugs off the street with his partner K9 Bayca," Blevins said.

Prince leaves behind his wife of nearly six years, two young daughters and his beloved K-9 partner. The family was too shaken up to speak on camera, but the community has pulled together dropping off food and well wishes.

Blevins said he is "emotionally devastated, I guess. I am old enough where I have encountered loss in my life but he is just a special young man."

Since Prince was deployed, Bayca has been paired with officer Brian Lennington.  That assignment will now be permanent.

Prince joined the Guard five days after his 17th birthday.

There has been word on funeral arrangements.

First National Bank and Trust has set up a fund to help the family.  Donations can be made in the Prince family name.
