NORMAN, Oklahoma – The Oklahoma football team has numerous players with eligibility concerns, but defensive tackle Jordan Phillips was removed from that dubious list Friday.

Phillips announced via Twitter that he had been cleared to play and would join the Sooners Monday, and Senior Associate Athletics Director Kenny Mossman confirmed it shortly thereafter.

Phillips is an incoming freshman and was a high school All-American last year. Standing at 6-feet-6-inches and 329 pounds, he was the No. 1 recruit to come out of Kansas according to Scout.com.

The Sooners did not specifically announce what Phillips' eligibility problem was, but it reportedly was an issue with NCAA Clearinghouse. He is expected to be redshirted after missing all of preseason camp.

Phillips was one of three incoming Sooners with eligibility problems, joined by receiver Trey Metoyer and fellow defensive tackle Jordan Wade. Their statuses remain up in the air, as does the Week 1 status of defensive end Ronnell Lewis.

Lewis has suffered through a roller coaster of an offseason, first facing eligibility concerns and then facing personal issues. Head coach Bob Stoops still has not definitively said whether Lewis will play against Tulsa on Sept. 3.
