My 2 Cents: First Day Of Continuous Learning Plan In Extreme Heat

Posted: Updated:

Kelly Ogle, News 9

Don't you know Superintendent Karl Springer and the Oklahoma City school board were shaking their sweaty heads today.

On the very day they launch their new continuous learning plan, we launch into perhaps one of the hottest weeks in history in our state.

Oh, they knew it was going to be hot starting three weeks earlier than usual, they just didn't know it was going to be backpack melting hot.

Baking heat, un-air-conditioned buses, it's the perfect storm without, of course, the storm.

But I credit Oklahoma City school leaders for shaking up the status quo, and trying a dramatic change to improve the school district.

And I think Superintendent Springer is right, I think other school districts will follow their lead over the next two or three years, and when was the last time Oklahoma City led the rest of the metro school districts, been awhile.

So yeah, I know the districts electric bills are going to skyrocket, do what it takes to keep the kids and teachers safe.

Who will complain if teachers can spend less time plowing back over lessons their students learned last year, and classroom performance improves?
