OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Zoo is celebrating the arrival of five bat-eared fox kits.

Four males and one female were born May 4. They're the first offspring for both of their parents, and the first litter of bat-eared foxes born at the zoo since 2005.

Zoo visitors will have a hard time getting a glimpse of the new family. Bat-eared foxes are primarily nocturnal and spend most of their time inside their den and out of sight. Zookeepers say if visitors are lucky, they might see the animals scurrying around in the early morning or late evening hours.

According to the zoo, bat-eared foxes come from eastern and southern Africa and get their name from their huge five-inch ears. The animals can grow to be about two feet long, and weigh from six to 12 pounds.

For more information about the foxes, other animals, zoo hours and admission prices, visit the Oklahoma City Zoo's website.
