Spencer Teen Drowns In North Canadian River

SPENCER, Oklahoma -- A Spencer teenager drowned in the North Canadian River Saturday evening.

Spencer police reported the 17-year-old was trying to swim across the river with friends Saturday about 6:30 p.m. when he went under water.

Wade Porter of the Spencer Fire Department said the victim's friends pulled him from the water.  He was taken to the hospital in cardiac arrest where he died.

Police have not released the victim's identity.
