Burn Bans Across Metro May Affect Fourth Of July Celebrations

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Because of temperatures in the triple digits and extremely dry conditions, several counties have issued burn bans which may affect your Fourth of July plans.

The restrictions do not stop at fireworks, but may affect your menu. Some metro county burn bans prohibit firing up the grill. Only gas grills are allowed in Grady County, yet in Oklahoma and Cleveland counties there are a different set of rules, as you can use both gas and charcoal grills.

Some people find the different burn bans confusing. Too many rules to keep up with, according to Sean Dobkins who fires up the grill every chance he gets.

"I don't know if it (the burn bans) are over the top, you'd have to show me reports where grilling contributed to fire or accidents in the city," Dobkins said.

The United States fire administration can. Annually, there are almost 3,800 Americans injured by gas or charcoal grill fires and more than half of grill fires are started in the summer.
