OKLAHOMA CITY -- Several homes were threatened by a grass fire in southwest Oklahoma City Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters were dispatched to an area near S.W. 44th and Frisco Road Saturday around 3 p.m.

The fire was contained to an area of about 100 acres but it took firefighters about two hours to bring it under control.

The big concern for firefighters was the close proximity of several homes.  At one point, the fire got as close as 20 or 30 feet from one home.

Firefighters said the high temperatures and high winds have increased the fire risk and are the biggest obstacles to bringing wildfires under control.

"As you know, we had pretty bad fire conditions back during the winter," Major Chad Everett of the Oklahoma City Fire Department.  "Due to not having much rain in the spring and our heat, the temperatures getting up so high and the humidity starting to drop back down low again, it's making prime conditions for fire spread.  It's just making it real hard."
