CHICKASHA, Oklahoma -- School administrators in Chickasha said they are investigating why a 7-year-old little girl was left on a school bus for seven hours Monday.
Amy Westvury put her daughter Core Mia on the school bus at 7:30 Monday morning. The first grader said she fell asleep in her seat. The driver didn't notice and parked the bus at the districts bus barn.
"She said she looked up and noticed no one was there so she sat and cried a little bit," Westvury said.
"I was scared," Core Mia said.
The little girl sat in her seat until 2:30 p.m. when the driver got back on the bus for his afternoon route and found her.
"I left my baby in their care and they left my baby on that bus. She didn't have no food, no water, no nothing," Westvury said.
School administrators notified Westvury who took her daughter to the Emergency Room fearing dehydration or worse.
"I didn't realize how hot it was yesterday. My baby could have died on that bus. I just thank God she didn't," Westvury said.
Core Mia is physically fine, but she scared to get on the bus again.
Her mother said she doesn't want to put her on there either.
A district spokesperson said drivers are supposed to check the buses after all the kids get off.
The driver has been suspended until after the investigation is complete.
