OKLAHOMA CITY -- Police say a driver with a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit hit a child with his car at an Oklahoma City apartment complex.
A witness told officers she was walking through the apartments at 5001 N.W. 10th Street on April 26, when she saw a gray Honda Civic hit a 5-year-old girl.
The witness said she ran over to the girl to make sure she was okay then she went to talk to the driver. She told officers 22-year-old Rolando Chay was the only person in the vehicle. When she asked him if he was going to get out of the car, he shook his head no and drove off.
A security guard found the car involved in the hit and run a few minutes later in the same apartment complex. He detained Chay until police arrived.
Officers said when they searched Chay's car they found an open bottle of beer and several more full bottles.
A breathalyzer test revealed he had a blood alcohol level of .26, more than twice the legal limit. Police also said there was no record of Chay having a driver's license.
Chay was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County jail.
The little girl was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
