EDMOND, Oklahoma -- Dee Ann Harper knew something wasn't right when she heard her alarm sound that one of the doors to her garage had been opened.

"Panic mode started to set in and my heart started racing," Harper said.

Harper went to check on her property when she noticed someone had tried breaking into her home through her back window.

"I came from my bedroom and saw the screen dangling from the window, I looked out [my back door] over to the garage door and it was kicked in," Harper said.

Instead of choosing to go back inside Harper yelled to the burglars in her garage that the police were on their way, however the 39-year-old Edmond homeowner hadn't called 911. A few seconds later Harper heard the thieves escaping through the front of her garage.

"Had I not made my presence known the interior garage door was open so they could have walked right in," Harper said.

Still the two suspects were able to get into Harper's car and steal her purse. Despite canceling her credit cards, one suspect was caught on surveillance camera using one to get gas at the Love's Gas Station located at 12225 N. I-35 Service Road in Oklahoma City.

A small price to pay for a homeowner who risked her safety to protect her home.

"The key is to have a plan and be prepared," Harper said.

If you know anything about this crime you are urged to call Edmond police at 405-359-4420.
