OKLAHOMA CITY -- Last week at this time, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation was trying to clear state highways as well as the states interstate system which was covered in over a foot of snow. However, this week crews found themselves clearing just a few inches.

Given the drastic difference in snow totals in the metro and a better part of the state, ODOT officials said they are clearing roads at a much faster rate.

"We had some roads north that were closed but at this point everything is open,"said Paul Green a Division Engineer for Division 4.

Green said keeping roads open is possible because all his crews are working around the clock to sand roads. ODOT's main concern is the likelihood roads will refreeze during the overnight hours.

Because ODOT braced for the worst, officials said it allowed them to better attack the areas hit with the most snow.

"We have contracted out a lot of our work allowing us to send more crews to the harder hit areas," Green said.

Compared to last weeks blizzard Green said this winter storm was a "blessing."
