OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma's newest state senator is officially on the job.

Republican Sen. Greg Treat took the oath of office Wednesday during a ceremony inside the Senate chamber.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Oklahoma in the State Senate and I look forward to helping pass a conservative agenda that will create jobs and fuel our economic recovery," Treat said.

Treat won a special election to fill the seat of former state Sen. Todd Lamb, who was elected lieutenant governor in November.

Treat's District 47 seat covers much of Edmond and northwest Oklahoma City.

Treat will finish the last two years of Lamb's unexpired term and then have to run again in 2012.

A former legislative advisor to House Republicans, Treat spent the last six years as U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn's state director of government relations.

Treat has already been assigned to several prestigious Senate committees, including General Government, Finance, Veterans and Military Affairs, Retirement and Insurance and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services.

Sen. Treat and his wife Maressa live in northwest Oklahoma City with their two sons, Mason, 3, and Cooper, 8 months.
