OKLAHOMA CITY -- Political campaign signs are lining streets in parts of northwest Oklahoma City and Edmond ahead of a special election next week to fill a vacancy in the state senate.

The election will fill the final two years of Todd Lamb's term. Lamb will be sworn in as the state's new Lt. Governor Monday, Jan. 10.

There will be no run-off. The candidate with the most total votes on Tuesday wins. Because this is a race in which every vote truly does count, all five candidates are busy shoring up support in the days before the election.

The winner will be one of just 48 state senators to decide issues that impact Oklahomans every day.

Vying for the seat are:

Todd Brawley, an engineer who points to his background of running businesses, along with hands-on understanding of Oklahoma's infrastructure needs.

Steven Dobbs, an attorney who is also a certified mediator. He says that experience will help him bring sides together on difficult issues.

Kenny Goza, who has run a pinch-a-penny campaign, researching and pointing out how many state workers earn six-figure salaries.

Carol Hefner, who worked with her volunteer phone bank Wednesday to spread her message of the passionate community fighter ready to take back government from career politicians.

Greg Treat, an aide to Senator Tom Coburn who points to his experience of negotiating legislation for the senator and others.
