EDMOND, Oklahoma -- Edmond firefighters rescued a woman and her two cats from an apartment fire at 3621 Wynn Drive.

Firefighters were called out to Boulder Creek apartments around 8 a.m.  They found the woman lying on the floor of her apartment, calling out for her "babies." When firefighters searched the apartment, they discovered the two cats.

"The gray cat I found was in this bedroom here, and my captain found the other cat in the closet," said Edmond Firefighter Cory Charmasson. "I handed the cat off to fellow firefighter and they put oxygen masks on it."

Firefighters brought the woman and the cats outside to safety.  She's being treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital.  The cats are okay and will stay at the Edmond Animal Welfare Unit until the woman can claim them.

It is unclear what sparked the fire.
