UNDATED -- Oklahoma wants to start executing felons on death row with the same drugs used to euthanize animals.

States are scrambling for alternatives after a world-wide shortage of one of the drugs used in the lethal injection cocktail.

The Wall Street Journal reports Oklahoma wants to use anesthetic that's considered humane for animals in an execution next month.

But convict's attorneys say the drug could be dangerous and painful to humans.

The case is going to court. If Oklahoma can use the animal anesthetic, it's likely other states will follow our lead.
