MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- Midwest City firefighters responded to a fire at Monroney Junior High around 1:30 Saturday morning after a car crashed into an air conditioning unit at the school's band room.

Police said the burnt out car is a recovered stolen vehicle from Oklahoma City. The driver managed to leave the scene.

Officers said the car was involved in an assault with a deadly weapon moments before the car went across the football field, through a chain length fence and into the side of a large metal outbuilding.

Police said the driver intentionally crashed into an occupied vehicle before driving onto the school campus.

Fire Captain Brandon Clabes said the fiery wreck caused thousands of dollars of damage. The band room building is detached from the main school.

The suspect is still on the loose.
