OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, or ATF, has developed a new plan to fight the escalating violence in the war in drugs.
The ATF has created seven teams, including one in Oklahoma City, designed to stop criminal groups from smuggling guns from the U.S. to Mexican drug cartels.
The teams were created just one month after authorities arrested former Oklahoma Drug Agent Francisco Reyes for smuggling firearms from Oklahoma to Mexico.
Reyes is charged with several weapons violations. A trial date has not been set because a Federal Grand Jury has not yet handed up a formal indictment.
