OKLAHOMA CITY -- Federal prosecutors have charged an Oklahoma City man with impersonating an FBI agent.
Justin Mathew,34, appeared in federal court in Oklahoma City Thursday afternoon. He's accused of impersonating an FBI agent at least four times in the last two years.
In August 2009, Mathew is accused of entering two Oklahoma City businesses, flashing a badge, and falsely identifying himself as an FBI agent. Prosecutors say he asked for the managers then questioned them about possible illegal activities such as prostitution and drug trafficking in their businesses.
Also in August 2009, an Oklahoma City police officer pulled over Mathew for a traffic stop. Mathew told the officer he worked for the FBI as a systems analyst.
The officer confirmed Mathew was not with the FBI and searched his car. The officer found two photo ID cards with Mathew's picture and the letters FBI, a certificate of achievement with Mathew's name and the letters FBI, an FBI windbreaker and an FBI ball cap.
Federal prosecutors say in September of this year, Mathew showed up at a wedding in Moore. Witnesses say he told them he was an FBI agent there to arrest someone attending the wedding. A Moore police officer witnessed Mathew trying to discard a fake FBI badge. A search revealed he had other FBI-marked items in his possession.
If convicted, Mathew faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
