OKLAHOMA CITY -- Big Truck Tacos, which has become a local hit, now looks to make it even bigger. The hit restaurant is in a close race to be featured in a new reality TV show on the Food Network called the "Great Food Truck Race."
The restaurant on wheels is in first place as of Thursday night, but the competition, which ends Friday at midnight, remains too close to call.
"Right now we're in first place. Monday we were in first place, then we were in second place and now we are in first again. It flip flops but it's pretty darn exciting," said Kathryn Mathis co-owner of Big Truck Tacos.
In the span of a little over a year, Mathis and her business partner, Cally Johnson, have watched their business explode. The two are currently looking at expanding their restaurant.
"When we created big truck tacos we really wanted to create community and bringing the people in and taking the truck out to serve people has done that," Mathis said.
Mathis and Johnson attributed a lot of their success to their fans who have helped drive a lot of their business including their support for the TV show.
"We knew that we would do good, that our food was good, we had no idea it would be this big," Mathis said.
