JONES, Oklahoma -- Three years after fire ripped through Jones High School, students will be welcomed back to start the new school year in a brand new building.
The high school was destroyed after power lines crashed down on the building and ignited a fire during the 2007 ice storm. For the last few years, students and teachers have had to hold classes in church buildings.
On Thursday the community gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
"It just feels like a weight has been lifted off of our shoulders. So nice to see the building for the students and the teachers being built and finally glad that we are going to be able to use it and kick off the new year in fine fashion," said Jones School Superintendent Mike Steele.
