Putnam City Hiring for New 'Make a Difference' After-School Program

Although most school districts are tightening their budgets, Putnam City is eager to hire new people with special talents.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Although most school districts are tightening their budgets, Putnam City is eager to hire new people with special talents.

The district wants to hire 33 people to teach in its "Make a Difference" after-school program for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. The positions are funded through an Ameri-Corps grant. The district is looking for people who can teach students about art, music, social studies, physical education and more.

"In the programs where we've had after-school programs before, academic school levels had really, really gone up. We want to do that but we also want to have a place where within the community it's safe to be until mom and dad get off work," said John Robberson, Director of After School Programs.

Most of the positions are part-time and new hires will have to become members of Ameri-Corps. Applications can be submitted online between Aug. 1 and Aug. 15.
