EDMOND, Oklahoma – An auto-pedestrian accident in Edmond near Coffee Creek and Kelley turned out to be domestic related after a woman hit her future mother-in-law with a car.

According to police, 31-year-old Ashley Hawkins and her future mother-in-law, Debbie Chancy, got into an argument over the discipline of a child. The fight started Wednesday night and continued Thursday morning.

"The question was if the child was injured and how that injury occurred but as far as we're concerned, that child appeared to be fine so there were no abuse or neglect," said Edmond Police Officer James Hamm.

Police say Hawkins was trying to leave the home when her fiancé's mother tried to stop her. Hawkins backed over Chancy with her car.

"She [Chancy] said she just didn't want her [Hawkins] to leave mad, she didn't want her driving mad, she didn't want her to leave the situation the way it was," Officer Hamm said.

Hawkins was arrested and Chancy was transported to the hospital with injuries to her head, arm and leg. Hawkins is in the Oklahoma County jail on an assault with a deadly weapon charge.

Court records show Hawkins pleaded guilty to possession of meth and obtaining money by means of a bogus check in 2004.

A relative of Hawkins said she would never hurt anyone and was trying to avoid an abusive situation.
