LUTHER, Oklahoma – Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials have identified a man who drowned in a Logan County lake Tuesday.

James Dagwell, 47, was kayaking on Lake Meridian when the kayak overturned. Troopers said Dagwell tried to retrieve the kayak and went under several times.

The OHP dive team and local fire department used a side scan sonar to help recover the victim's body from the lake.

Troopers said Dagwell was not wearing a flotation device.

The Logan County Sheriff's Office, Guthrie Fire Department, Meridian Volunteer Fire Department and the Langston Police Department helped in the recovery.
