Pharmacy Burglaries Becoming More Frequent

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Two times in less than a week a pharmacy in south Oklahoma City has been burglarized. In each case, prescription drugs were the main target.

Right now police don't know if they are looking for two people or four but they hope by putting out the surveillance video it will help get a lot of their questions answered.

It was a burglary lasting only a matter of minutes and without hesitation the thieves broke into the Ridgecrest pharmacy and headed straight for the drugs.

What happened back on July 30 is almost identical to what happened on June 4. Again burglars broke into the pharmacy and once behind the counter begin grabbing for prescription drugs.

"They're drugs, a lot of people out there are targeting," said Oklahoma City Police MSgt. Gary Knight. "A lot of criminals out there want to get their hands on these drugs for either use or sale."

These kind of burglaries have been such a problem for Ridgecrest pharmacy they've even put up bars around their windows in hopes of deterring those wanting to steal their drugs. Unfortunately catching those who already have stolen from them could be a tougher problem to solve.

"We don't know who the players are, that's why we want to get these guys identified and see what we can figure out from that point," Knight said.

In each incident the officials with the pharmacy said the burglars were able to get away with about $1,500 worth of prescription meds.
