OKLAHOMA CITY – An Edmond man is facing assault and battery charges after reportedly being seen trying to push his girlfriend over the edge of a second story railing at a metro mall.

According to a police report, 28-year-old Martrell Dejuan Edwards was arrested Saturday, May 8 at the Penn Square Mall in Oklahoma City. The girlfriend's mother told police that Edwards had assaulted her daughter and had beaten her several times that day, before following her to the mall.

The girlfriend, whose identity is being withheld, told police she had been arguing with Edwards at the mall when he attempted to push her body over the second story railing. She also showed police several injuries, scratches, bruises and bite marks she said were from Edwards.

A witness saw the incident and told police Edwards tried to push the woman over the railing.

Security guards at the mall detained Edwards until police arrived. Edwards told police he and the woman and recently gotten back together and he was upset she had not told her mother the truth about them dating. He claims he did not lay a hand on her. He said the markings on the woman came from her attacking him last week.

Edwards was booked into the Oklahoma County jail and now faces assault and battery charges.
