TULSA, OK -- The company that makes products like Children's Tylenol, Motrin and Benadryl is urging parents to throw them away. They've already been taken off of shelves in Tulsa.

Doctors say parents should be cautious but not panic about the recall.

The beginning of the month is always busy at Getman's Apothecary Shoppe in Tulsa. While pharmacists continue to rapidly fill prescriptions, a number of popular over-the-counter products have already been put aside.

For now, parents can no longer buy drugs like children's Tylenol, Zyrtec and Motrin. The company that makes them, McNeil Consumer Healthcare, says some may contain too much of the active ingredient.

The products haven't harmed any children, and pharmacists say the recall is likely a precautionary measure.

"It's very possible that it wouldn't pose a safety issue, but golly when it's your child you certainly want to be safe," Lindy Rowland, Getman Apothecary Shoppe, said.

Pediatrician Patrick Daley says several anxious parents are asking about the recall, but he believes the products pose little threat to children.

"I'm not worried about kids who have taken their Tylenol at home. I don't think that's an issue," Dr. Daley said.

Daley also points out that not all versions of these drugs are affected by the recall. He's telling parents to get rid of their children's Tylenol and Benadryl, and buy generic.

"So it's not like we don't have anything to treat the fever or pain in kids. We still do," he said. "Hopefully this will be an issue that will be resolved very quickly, and get it back on the shelves."

Just how that will happen remains unclear. McNeil has not said how long it will be before it deems its products once again safe to use.

A full list of the recalled products, as well as information about how to get refunds for them, is available on McNeil's web site.
