OKLAHOMA CITY - A candidate for the 4th U.S. Congressional District says he'll continue his campaign despite being told his Oklahoma Army National Guard unit will be deploying to Afghanistan.
Republican R.J. Harris announced Monday that he's expected to deploy sometime this summer. It will be Harris' third combat tour. The 37-year-old previously served two tours in Iraq.
Harris says while he's on active duty his campaign will continue with the help of his staff and by activists willing to speak on his behalf.
Harris is running for the Republican nomination. Incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Cole is expected to run for re-election to a fifth term.
The south-central Oklahoma district includes Moore, Norman, Lawton and Ardmore.
