McALESTER, Oklahoma -- Oklahoma State Penitentiary officials have identified an inmate who was found dead at the maximum security prison.
Warden's assistant Terry Crenshaw said Friday 39-year-old Brian Washington died on Thursday. Washington was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder out of Muskogee County.
He was found unresponsive about 6:40 a.m. Thursday as personnel were serving breakfast. He had talked to staff less than an hour before that.
Officials are looking into his death, but the preliminary investigation didn't show any trauma or injury to the body, indicating he may have died of natural causes. According to the prison, Washington was housed in a single cell and had no cell partner.
Crenshaw says the medical examiner would determine the cause of death.
