Oklahoma Home Buyers Participate in Homes to Help Haiti

EDMOND, Oklahoma -- NEWS 9 viewers have helped send water filters to Haiti after the deadly quake hit. So far, more than $80,000 has been donated to the local charity, Water is Life. Now, some metro builders are also joining the effort to send filter straws to the devastated country.

Their work is being done brick by brick.

As the water flows outside a beautiful home in Logan County, inside it's also all about water.

"It's just a great opportunity to be able to do something like that and help people who aren't as fortunate as us to have running water," Brent Wilson with MD Homes said.

Wilson is a home builder. When the earthquake hit Haiti he and his partner wondered how they could make a difference.

"Neither one of us had the time to go down there or anything like that so we came up with the idea of giving all the proceeds to Water is Life," Wilson said.

Three houses in the Bella Terra addition were put on the market. Now, Oklahomans can shop for their dream home and also help Water is Life at the same time.

Water is Life distributes filter straws all around the world. But recently, its mission has focused on Haiti.

"They're saying there are millions of people that don't have clean water in Haiti, so anything we can do is going to help those individuals," Water is Life Founder Ken Surritte said.
