Ruling Links CIA to OKC Bombing Prosecution

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A federal judge has turned down a Utah attorney's request for access to secret CIA documents about the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing in a ruling that links the agency to the prosecution of Timothy McVeigh.

A decision handed down Friday by U.S. District Judge Clark Waddoups in Salt Lake City rejected attorney Jesse Trentadue's Freedom of Information Act request for 12 CIA documents. The judge says they are legally exempt from disclosure.

But the decision says affidavits by the CIA summarizing the documents' contents indicate the agency was working with the Department of Justice to prepare for the prosecution of McVeigh and co-conspirator Terry Nichols.

Trentadue says it's the first indication the CIA and Justice Department worked together in the bombing prosecutions.
