Football Camp Offers Coaches Fall Preview

EDMOND, Oklahoma -- Edmond North High School hosted the first-ever North Metro Team Camp, involving 10 high school football teams from across the state.

"It's a lot of fun," said Cashion Head Coach, Lynn Shackelford. "Anytime you can play football in the first week of June, it's really exciting. I think the kids really get into it."

The event wrapped up Friday, as the 10 teams faced off in mini-scrimmages.

The following schools participated in the camp:

• Edmond North High School
• Del City High School
• Woodward High School
• Stillwater High School
• Oklahoma Christian High School
• Moore High School
• Luther High School
• Cashion High School
• Meeker High School
• Newkirk High School

For most of the teams, it was the first time they've played together since December, and with senior noticeably missing, the scrimmages gave coaches an opportunity to pinpoint their teams' strengths and weaknesses.

"Anytime you get a chance to get someone in a different colored jersey, the intensity is going to pick up, the fire will pick up," said Edmond North Head Coach Jeremy Dombec. "We saw that throughout the last few days."

The teams, ranging from smaller schools to larger school, faced off. For smaller schools, it gave the players a chance to match up against the state's larger schools.

"We don't face Edmond North, and we don't face Stillwater," said Moore Head Coach Scott Myers. "We can see what they have and what they are doing."

Most of the teams plan to take a two-week break before heading to practice again.
